Mrs. William Krogman, a resident of Elkader, Ia., since 1887, died Wednesday noon, Feb. 14, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 8 days.
Mrs. Krogman, nee Marie Theese, was born in Glauzin, Germany, on Nov. 6, 1858. On the seventeenth day of March, 1880, she was united in marriage to William Krogman. Two years after her marriage she and her husband decided to venture forth from their native country and establish their home in America. On Sept. 5, 1882, they landed in this country and for a short time made their home in Toledo, Ohio. From there they came to Elkader and then for four years resided in West Union, Ia. Since 1887, until the time of her death, she was a resident of Elkader.
The deceased was a faithful wife and mother and the welfare of her family was her sole concern. She not only found time to take care of her household duties well but was a great help to her husband in the tailor business in which he was engaged until his age forced him to retire. Mrs. Krogman was a faithful member of the Frieden's Evangelical church and attended services regularly.
Mrs. Krogman has been in failing health for the past few months but was not confined to her home until about three weeks ago.
To the afore mentioned marriage six children were born. Twins, William and Wilhelmina, died in infancy. The four surviving children are: Meta, Mrs. John Schroeder of Postville; Bertha, Mrs. Myrl Hicks of Charles City; Emma, Mrs. Fred Zimmerman of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Frieda, Mrs. Edward Sturdevant of Lehigh. She also leaves to mourn her departure her husband, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are: Merl Meder, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Edward Taylor, Lehigh; Robert Sturdevant, Lehigh, and Bernice and Kenneth Hicks of Charles City. The great-grandchildren are Cheryl Taylor of Lehigh and Myrl Edward Meder of Oklahoma City, Okla.
