Volga City: Millburn Ira Blake, son of Leon Blake and Jessie Tompkins Blake, was born Jan. 08, 1908, at Volga, and died Jan. 17, 1940, in the Deaconess hospital at Minneapolis after a brief illness of crysipelas septicemia at the age of 32 years and 9 days.

The early years of his life were spent at Volga where he received his education in both grade and high school.

At the age of eighteen he joined the United States army where he spent the next twelve years of his life. He spent three years in each of the following places: Fort Douglas, Utah; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Manila, Phillippine Islands and Fort Snelling, Minn.

In March, 1938, he was honorably discharged from the army and did not re-enlist. He was employed since at a cafe in Minneapolis.

He was taken to the hospital on Monday, Jan. 15, a put under the care of a special nurse, but grew steadily worse until he passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 17.

His mother preceded him in death having died Feb. 01, 1919, a victim of the terrible influenza epidemic that year.

Those left to mourn his departure are his father, Leon A. Blake and step-mother, Hallie Blake of Volga; sister, Mrs. Vivian Kellogg of Strawberry Point; three brothers, Loyle of Minneapolis, Dean of Lisbon, Portugal, and Merlyn of Gridley, Kan.; his grandmother, Mrs. C. C. Blake of Volga; two nephews, Ronnie Dean Blake of Lisbon, Portugal, and Billie Ray Kellogg of Strawberry Point; and a niece, Janann Avis Kellogg of Strawberry Point. There are also many other relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Presbyterian church at Volga, with Rev. Russell Nelson officiating.

Pallbearers were: Kent Walters, Elmo Smith, Howard Taylor, Forrest Humbert, John Dale Conboy and Ted Leete.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tompkins, Waterloo; Russell Blake, Vinton; Merton Blake and Wilma Morgan, Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Blake, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kellogg and Billy Ray, Strawberry Point; Luther Crandall, Wadena; Theodore Rowell of Manchester and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brown of Strawberry Point.
