STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Baumgartner were conducted at the Emanuel's Lutheran church, Tuesday afternoon, by the Rev. Max O. Jahr. Six grandsons were pallbearers: Albert Opperman, Jr., Alfred Kramer, Harold, Louie and Irvin Baumgartner and Harold Otdoerfer. Burial was made in the family lot of the St. Sebald cemetery.
Anna Niedermeyer, daughter of Fredrick and Anna Niedermeyer, was born on a farm at St. Sebald, Oct. 07, 1856, and died Saturday morning, after a fall in her home a week before, when she suffered a fractured hip.
She was baptized in infancy and later was sent to the pastor of the Lutheran church for instruction, and was confirmed on Palm Sunday, 1869. She was united in marriage to Herman Baumgartner on August 20, 1873. The couple began housekeeping on the place now occupied by their son, Louis. After many years, they moved to a smaller farm nearby, now owned by Charles Rummel. After a few years spent on this farm, they moved to town and purchased a home on the southwest part of town, where the home has since been made. To this union, 14 children came to bless their home. Two preceded the mother in death. Mr. Baumgartner died May 08, 1927, and since his death her son Herman had remained with her and she was given the loving care of the rest of the children.
She and her husband were permitted to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary and to live together for 54 years. She is survived by nine sons and three daughters: August and Fred, of Oelwein; Herman, Louie, Charlie, Martin, William, John, George, Mrs. Sigmund (Minnie) Otdoerfer, Mrs. Fred (Lena) Kramer and Mrs. Albert (Lydia) Opperman, all of Strawberry Point; also 46 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
