Paul Haas, 80, died last week, Tuesday morning, at 7:30 o'clock, following an illness of several months' duration.
The funeral was held at St. Joseph's church, Thursday morning at 9:00 o'clock, the Rev. H. Scharphoff officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery, Garnavillo. Pallbearers were Herbert Berns, Earl Berns, Alvin Berns, Gregor Haas, Paul Meier, Ed. Meier.
Mr. Haas was born in Altrich, Rhine Province, Trier, Germany, on March 01, 1859. He came to the United States in 1882 and settled in Duston, Ill., later coming to Clayton county. In 1892 he married Anna Mich of Garnavillo. He then lived on farms in Jefferson township until 14 years ago, when he retired and moved to Garnavillo.
Surviving are three children, John of Comfrey, Minn., Mary (Mrs. LeRoy Berns) of Garber, and Hubert, of Garnavillo. His wife and two children preceded him in death. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Mary Meier, of Lawler, Iowa, and a brother John of Canova, E.D. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
