Clayton County Register, 27 Dec. 1939.

This community was shocked and grieved when it was learned last Saturday evening that Mrs. Lester Schulte had died at her home, following childbirth.

Agnes Marie (Gentz) Schulte was born March 29, 1913, in Luana, the daughter of William and Anna Gentz, and so at the time of her death had reached the age of 26 years, eight months and 24 days.

She graduated from the Luana high school and grew to womanhood in the Luana community. On January 23, 1937, she was united in marriage with Lester Schulte of this place, and, following their marriage, they came to Elkader to make their home.

Quoting from the obituary read at the services, we find, "Seldom do we find such heartfelt sympathy exhibited as we did when the news of this death was learned. Years may come and go, but the memory of her kind voice, cheery smile and kindly word to all...will never pass out of the minds of those who knew and loved her."

Left to mourn her death are the husband, her two sons, Wayne, one years and ten months of age, and the newly-born son, Charles William; her mother, Mrs. Wm. Gentz, of Luana; one brother, William F. Gentz, Luana, and five sisters: Mrs. Harley Radloff, Luana; Hester Gentz, Lou Ann Gentz, Rita Gentz and Marjorie Gentz, all of Monona. Surviving also are her father- and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schulte, other relatives, and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the late home at one-thirty, and at two o'clock in the Frieden's Evangelical church. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery with the Rev. P. Kitterer, her pastor, officiating.

Relatives from a distance who attended the services included: Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Baltz, Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. Will Baltz, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Baltz and sons, Castalia; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baltz and daughters, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Buhlman and son, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Klaus and son, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gentz, Prophetstown, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Neptune, Peoria, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gentz, East Peoria, Ill.
