Clayton County Register, 04 Oct. 1939.

This community was shocked last Saturday morning when it was learned that Wm. Heitkamp, Jr., had died very suddenly in his home on the East Side.

The deceased, William Fredrick Heitkamp, a life-long resident of Clayton county, and the son of William and Lena, nee Hannan, Heitkamp, was born September 22, 1880, in Cox Creek township. At the time of his death he had reached the age of 59 years and seven days.

The early years of Mr. Heitkamp's life were spent on the Milwaukee railroad, where he was engaged as baggageman. Later he did plumbing and cement work. For a number of years Mr. Heitkamp did not enjoy the best health, although when he retired Thursday evening he appeared to be jovial and in as good health as at any time, and therefore his sudden death was a severe shock to his family.

Mr. Heitkamp was united in marriage on Sept. 09, 1914, at Elkader, Iowa, to Alma Schuety. Two children were born to this union, Willis, who died in infancy, and Ivanelle, who survives her father in death.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, the aforementioned daughter, his father and mother, William and Lena Heitkamp of Elkader, and one brother, Charles, of McGregor.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 o'clock at the Evangelical church. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.

Casket-bearers were: Dale Jones, E. W. Carlsen, E. C. Bandow, Mike Miller, Irvin Fehlhafer and Avron Oleson.
