Joseph Meyer, prominent retired Volga township farmer, died suddenly yesterday at the home of his son-in-law, Alfred Hall, in Elk township.

Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 9:30 at the St. Michael's church in Garber, the Rev. Father Olinger officiating.

GARBER: This community received word Tuesday evening, Aug. 29, of the sudden death of Joseph Meyer at the age of 79 years and four months at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alfred Hall near Elkport, where he spent the day fishing in Elk Creek.

Joseph Meyer was born in Frenchtown, near Guttenberg, on April 29, 1860, son of Alex and Genevieve (Biederman) Meyer. He was married to Margaret Winch Jan. 07, 1886, and for many years they lived on a farm in Volga township. He had been a resident of Garber for the past 20 years.

His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 1926. He leaves to mourn his death, six children, Mrs. Margaret McLane of Garber, Mrs. Alma Hall of Elkport, Mrs. Elsie Finnegan of Colesburg, Ben of Garber, Mrs. Geneva Uriell of Garnavillo and Mrs. Josie Noack of Garber; also 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson. One son, Leonard, died at the age of two years. One brother, Alex, and one sister, Mrs. Amelia Wilcox, preceded him in death, also several brothers who died in infancy.

Funeral services were held at St. Michael's church, Garber, Friday morning at 9:30. Rev. J. J. Olinger read the Requiem Mass. The Rev. F. J. Phelan of Reilly Ridge, and the Rev. H. C. Sharphoff of Garnavillo were present in the sanctuary. Burial took place in Mt. Harmony cemetery. The Rev. J. J. Olinger read the prayers at the grave assisted by the Rev. F. J. Phelan.

The funeral was attended by a large number of relatives and friends.

The pallbearers were six grandsons: Kenneth McLane, Jerome McLane, Wallace Finnegan, Elias Hall, James Noack and Clarence Meyer.
