Francis F. Farmer was born February 13, 1864, at Cross Plains, Wis., son of James Farmer and Nancy McPhillips, one of a family of seven boys. At the age of three he moved with his parents to Cox Creek, Iowa. After the death of his parents, he lived on the homestead, and in 1893 was united in marriage to Daisy Olive Carpenter. To this union 11 children were born, all of whom survive.
In 1904 they moved to their present home, where he enjoyed excellent health until January, 1936, when he suffered a stroke, from which he remained an invalid. Friday morning at 7:30 he peacefully passed away, leaving to mourn a loving wife, eleven children: Mamie Miles, Maggie Kellogg, Dewey, Bryan, Daisy Kellogg, Edward, Nellie Olinger, Clara, Francis, Mae Berns, and Kathryn; also one brother, William, living in Greeley, Iowa, and 30 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church at Cox Creek at 9:30 Monday Morning, Rev. Father Boyle officiating. He was buried in Cox Creek cemetery beside his parents.
