August Heinrich Steglich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Steglich, was born April 4, 1864 in Clayton Center, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Clayton Center. His early years up until the date of his marriage were spent in and about Clayton Center.

On March 7, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Koss of Garnavillo, Iowa. After the marriage the young couple moved to a farm southwest of Luana, where they lived until the death of his wife on February 26, 1925.

It was during this time that Mr. Steglich joined hands with that group that organized St. John's Lutheran Church of Luana. For several years Mr. Steglich also served faithfully as a member of the Church Council of St. John's, Luana.

In December, 1932, he moved into the village of Luana, where he lived for nearly two years. The last five years he lived in National. Since last February, his health began to fail. The last 22 days of his life were spent in a hospital.

Death came to him early Sunday morning. He attained an age of 75 years, 1 month and 10 days.

He leaves to mourn his death a son, Carl, two daughters, Alma, now Mrs. Albert Berns, and Rosa, now Mrs. Emil Lembke, four grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

May his body rest undisturbed and peacefully in its grave until the blessed morning of the resurrection.
