Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon at the late home and in Frieden's Evangelical church here for Mrs. Henry Cords.
Mrs. Marie Magdeline Cords, nee Stallbaum, died Thursday evening, April 27, after being confined to her bed with a heart ailment for five weeks. Mrs. Cords was born on June 12, 1875, in Cox Creek township, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 63 years, 10 months and 15 days. Mrs. Cords was the daughter of Peter and Catherine Stallbaum.
On February 22, 1902, Mrs. Cords was united in marriage to Henry Cords here at Elkader. Ten children were born to this union. Seven boys and three girls.
Mrs. Cords spent her entire life in this community. She received her education in the rural school, and since her marriage lived on the farm where she died. Her interest was in her home and children, and as a recreation she spent much time with her garden and flowers. Mrs. Cords had a severe sick spell several years ago for a period of five months, but up until her last ailment was able to be up and around, and enjoy life.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, her ten children, two brothers, John and Louis Stallbaum of Elkader, three grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Burial was made in the East Side cemetery, the seven sons serving as casket-bearers. The Rev. P. Kitterer officiated at all the services.
