Mr. August W. Meyer, a son of Paul Meyer and his wife Lizzie Willmuth was born Jan. 01, 1868 on a farm near Garnavillo.
Soon after his birth he was instructed in Religion by Rev. Sommerlot and Confirmed in the Lutheran church of Garnavillo.
He spent his young manhood working on the farm at home and about the community. On Feb. 17, 1909 he was united in marriage with Ella Henkes. Together they made their home on a farm northwest of Farmersburg which continued to be until the time of Mr. Meyer's death.
This union was blessed with one child, Helen.
Mr. Meyer showed signs of failing health for about the past year. Since the latter part of Sept. it was necessary for him to remain in bed most of the time.
Mr. Meyer passed away, Jan. 07 at 11:10 a.m. reaching the age of 71 years and 06 days. His death was caused by cancer.
Two sisters have preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn, his wife, his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alois Kadlec and one granddaughter, also five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services were held from the home to the Farmersburg Lutheran Church, on Tuesday, Jan. 10, Rev. H. M. Adix, officiating. Burial was made in Lutheran cemetery, Monona.
