ELKPORT: Anna (Ritter) Hohman, pioneer resident of Clayton county, was born in Volga township on Sept. 10, 1858. Her childhood years were spent in the parental home, during which years she received holy baptism, a public school education, and a two-year Bible school education.
Aug. 10, 1876, she entered into marriage with Wm. Hohman of Elkport, which became and remained her home throughout her earthly pilgrimage. This union was blessed with five children, four of whom survive her. The deceased was a widow for 53 years.
Sunday, Nov. 06, she was stricken with apoplexy, and died in the presence of her children and pastor, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2:30 p.m. She reached the age of 80 years and two months.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1:00 p.m., in the home, for the immediate family, and at 1:30 in Emanuel Lutheran church in Elkport.
The departed is survived by two sons, John and August H. Hohman, of Elkport; two daughters, Mary, Mrs. Joe Meyer, of Elkader; Mathilda, Mrs. Henry Fritz, of Garber; one sister, Mrs. Mathilda Rieck, of Luzerne, Iowa, and four grandchildren.
