Clayton County Register, 26 Oct. 1938.

Fred H. Taake, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Taake, was born Feb. 28, 1867, in Read township, and died at his home in Farmersburg, Sunday morning, October 23, 1938. Mr. Taake reached the age of 71 years, 7 months and 25 days.

Mr. Taake had not been enjoying good health for a number of years. Several years ago he went to Rochester for treatment, but never regained full health. For the past few years he has been under the care of a local physician. Although his relatives and friends knew that he was a sick man, no one was looking for his death at this time. He had been up and around as usual the day before his death. After his housekeeper called him several times Sunday morning, and receiving no answer, she investigated and found that he had slipped peacefully away during the night.

In the year 1892 he was united in marriage to Louisa Vullgraf. One son was born to this union, namely Hugo, who preceded him in death in 1934. The death of his wife and especially the suffering of his son before his death grieved him deeply.

Mr. Taake farmed during his entire lifetime near Clayton Center. In the year 1918, when he and his wife retired, they moved to Elkader to make their home. His wife died Feb. 23, 1936. Shortly after his wife's death, he moved to Farmersburg, where he made his home until his death.

He leaves to mourn, his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mahlie Taake, and one grandchild, Ladean, of Elkader. Twin sister, Mrs. Eliza Glawe, of Farmersburg, and Mrs. Lisetta Kilien, Elkader; three brothers, Henry of Guttenberg, George of Elkader, and August of Read township; one sister and one brother preceded him in death.

Services were held from his home in Farmersburg, Tuesday afternoon, October 25, at 1:30 p.m., to Friedens Evangelical church. Burial was at Clayton Center cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Henning, Henry Henning, William Buckman, William Baade, William Matt, and LeRoy Reardon.
