LUCILLE FRANCES HAND

Funeral services were held last Thursday morning for Mrs. Lucille Hand at St. Joseph's church and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery with the Very Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.

Mrs. Hand died at her home here last week Monday after a lingering illness of about two years. She was born in the year 1884 on a farm near Arlington, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Monnahon. In 1901 she was united in marriage with William Hand at Volga City. The latter preceded her in death in 1928, while a resident of Elkader.

Mr. and Mrs. Hand spent some time on a farm near Elkader but for the last 16 years she has been a resident of Elkader while operating Hand's cafe.

It was in the operation of this latter establishment that she developed a host of friends who will sympathize with her daughters in the loss of a mother.

Three daughters were born to Mrs. Hand and they survive her passing. They are Phyllis Hand, at home; Mrs. Florence Gerber of this place, and Mrs. Ethel Pike of Jersey City, N.J. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Doran of Oelwein, Mrs. Arthur Bice of Chicago; two brothers, John Monnahon of Edgewood, and Jim Monnahon of Elkader, and one brother-in-law, John Hand of this place.

She was a member of the Lady Foresters and of St. Joseph's Catholic church.

Casket-bearers were, Howard Bishop, Burnell Stoops, John Meyer, John Humphrey, Edwin Poull and Michael Ehrhardt.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral included: Miss Abby Skaff of LaCrosse, Wis., Leo Needham and son, Mr. and Mrs. Bartley Needham and Mrs. Anton Sweeney, all of Waukon, Pat Needham and Mrs. Robt. Luster and daughter of Monona, Carl Doran, Mr. and Mrs. Max Gerber, Sr., Mrs. Anna Weideman and Mrs. Maxine Quackenbush, all of Waterloo and D. J. Raftis of Oelwein.
