Clayton County Register, 27 July 1938.

Monroe Orville Henkes, son of Henry and Fannie Henkes, was born December 16, 1882, near Farmersburg, Iowa. His youth and manhood were spent in the parental home and the same farm was to become his home until his death.

On January 26, 1910, he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Wagner. To this union were born six children: Alberta, Alton, Marietta, Helen, Vernis and Calvin.

Mr. Henkes reached the age of 55 years, seven months and three days. He leaves to mourn: his wife, his children: Mrs. Alberta Rolland, Alton, Mrs. Marietta Scheffert, Mrs. Helen Krambeer, Vernis, and Calvin; four grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. John Krambeer, Mrs. Fred Kurth, Mrs. Joseph Russell; one brother, Howard Henkes; also a host of other relatives and friends.
