STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Preston were held at the Methodist church, Friday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Hobart M. Gable. A quartet composed of Dr. R. W. Dutton and Miss Marion, Mrs. B. W. Talcott and W. A. Luse, sang "Abide With Me," with Mrs. H. H. Hofer playing the accompaniment. Pallbearers were: R. C. Norris, B. W. Talcott, Chas. Blanchard, George Tucker, Rudolph Moser and Lee Scheffler. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
Elizabeth Jane Jewell, daughter of John and Johanna Jewell, was born at Scales Mound, Ill., on Nov. 20, 1864, and died at the Jones hospital at Manchester on July 04.
In 1886, she was united in marriage to Lewis Wayne Preston, who preceded her in death May 06, 1938. Surviving are five children: Eva Preston, Strawberry Point; Genie Preston, Saginaw, Mich.; Percy and Wayne Preston, Strawberry Point; and Mrs. W. S. (Doris) Rosing, Davenport; 11 grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters: T. R. Jewell of Dundee, John Jewell of Strawberry Point, William Jewell of Parkers Prairie, Minn., Walter Jewell of Edgewood, Mrs. Frances Gartz and Mrs. Priscilla Meikle, both of Oelwein, and Mrs. Ida Rogers of Scales Mound, Ill. Mrs. Preston moved with her parents from Scales Mound, Ill. to Strawberry Point in 1882, and lived the rest of her life in this community, except for one year spent at Omaha, Nebr., and one year at Baxter, Iowa. Mrs. Preston's main interest was in her home, as she was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church for many years, having been a member of the official board for several terms financial secretary of the church and president of the Industrial Club for about ten years. She was a past worhy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
