Clayton County Register, 13 July 1938.

E. E. Wallace, a familiar race track character in this section of the state, was buried at National, Monday afternoon. He had died Sunday noon at the hospital in Iowa City.

Mr. Wallace has been a resident of Elkader for a number of years. He lived on the local fair grounds and every season had one or more race horses in his care and training. He is survived by one son in Canada. His wife and one son preceded him in death, the latter being buried at National.

Elmer Ellsworth Wallace, a resident of Elkader, Iowa, for the past 25 years, died at the University hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, Sunday, July 10, 1938, at the age of 78 years.

Mr. Wallace was born in St. Lawrence county, in the state of New York, 78 years ago. He resided in Canada for a number of years, later coming to the United States and residing in Clayton county for 45 years, several years at National, more recently at Elkader. Mr. Wallace was a familiar figure on the fair grounds, a lover and trainer of horses.

He was married to Maggie Dickey, deceased. Two children survive, Annie Mason, Toronto, Canada, and Charles D. Wallace, Perth, Ontario, Canada. One son is buried at National.
