Clayton County Register, 29 June 1938.
Clarence L. Leonard, only son of Mrs. Anna Leonard, died in an automobile accident about two o'clock, Saturday morning, near the shell service station in East Elkader.
Clarence LeRoy Leonard was born here in Elkader on May 17, 1909, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Leonard, and at the time of his death had reached the age of 29 years, one month and seven days.
He received his early education in the local public school and later graduated from the Y.M.C.A. high school in Chicago, where he spent about five years. While in Chicago he followed the occupation of clerk, but for the last year he has been at home here with his mother.
Besides his mother, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. L. A. Gorham, of Chicago, besides a number of other relatives, who have the sympathy of the community in the death of this young man. His father preceded him in death in 1925.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the late home and from the Friedens Evangelical church, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.
