Volga City: Funeral services for Thomas Bergan were held at ten o'clock, Monday morning, at Sacred Heart Catholic church. Mr. Bergan passed away at his home Saturday morning, following a short illness. Rev. D. T. Noonan, pastor, sang the requiem high mass. Rev. Lee O'Connell of Clermont preached the funeral sermon.
Thomas Francis Bergan was born in Highland township in 1868, the son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth Scully Bergan. He lived in Volga and the surrounding vicinity his entire lifetime. He was united in marriage to Miss Julia Shea, Feb. 17, 1902, and to this union seven children were born, two sons having died in infancy. Surviving are his widow, one daughter, Mae, at home; four sons, John at home, Harold and Leo of Volga, and Thomas, who lives near Elkader; also seven grandchildren, one brother, James, and a sister, Lizzie, both of Volga.
Deceased was a faithful member of the Catholic church and a good father and upright citizen. The casket-bearers were nephews of the deceased: Joseph Boland, John Boland, Glen Little, Cecil Glennon, Donald Shea and Frank Shea. Interment was in Sacred Heart cemetery. Sincere sympathy is extended the bereaved relatives.
