Mrs. Mary Ann Hannon died at her home here last Thursday, Mar. 31 from a stroke at the age of 61 years, eleven months and three days. She had been in failing health since the early part of last September.
Mrs. Hannon was born here in Elkader on April 28, 1876, the daughter of Patrick and Virginia Regan. On the date of her birth, in 1896, she was united in marriage here to Thomas Hannon and for many years this couple resided on a farm near Elkader.
Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Hannon removed to Elkader and this city has been her home for the last four years. The deceased received her education in the schools of Elkader and for three years, prior to the date of her marriage, she was a teacher in the rural schools of this county.
No children were born to this union but Mrs. Hannon is survived by one sister - Mrs. James Humphrey of this place, and one brother - John Regan of St. Paul - besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was a member of the Catholic order of Forresters and a devout member of St. Joseph's church. Funeral services were held Saturday morning and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery with the Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.
Casket-bearers were three nephews - Raymond, Greg and John Humphrey - A. J. Johnson, Gerald Feeney and Vincent Roach.
Friends from a distance who attended the services were, Mrs. E. E. Beers of Gar, Ind., and Leda Groggan of Chicago.
