Funeral services were held here Monday morning in St. Joseph's church for Peter Thillen who had died in a hospital at Fergus Falls, Minn., after an illness of 2 months. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rev. Father J. P. Taken officiating both in the church and at the grave.
Peter Thillen, who was a resident of Thief River Falls, Minn., was born in this township on the home farm north of Elkader in 1863. He remained here until 1900 when he went to Grand Forks, N.D., where he resided until 1914, going from there to Thief River Falls. He was the son of Baltzar and Anna Thillen. His father preceded him in death in 1903; his mother in 1896.
Mr. Thillen was in the implement business and was an accomplished machinist.
He is survived by two brothers, Nicholas and Fred Thillen of this place and two sisters, Mary of Elkader and Emma of Chicago. Five nephews and one niece also survive, as follows: Sylvester Thillen, Elkader; Fred Thillen, Maquoketa; Joe Greiner, Luxemburg, Leo Greiner, Earlville; Edward Steffen and Mrs. Simon Willmes, Elkader.
Casket-bearers were: Fred Thillen, Sylvester Thillen, Joe Greiner, Max Opitz, Ed. Steffen and Art Hoover.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Greiner, Luxemburg; Peter Wagner and daughter, Luxemburg; Mrs. Katherine Wendel, Bancroft; Emma Thillen, Chicago; Fred Thillen, Maquoketa; and Clem Steffen, Key West, Iowa.
