Clayton County Register, 16 Mar. 1938.

STRAWBERRY POINT: Last Tuesday afternoon, shortly after 4 o'clock, our community was shocked to learn that Loren Uhl had passed away. Shortly before that, he was up town and appeared as well as usual, although he had suffered some severe heart attacks. On returning home he suffered an attack and before his sister, Miss Mary, could get help he had passed away.

Military funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Hobart M. Grant. Music was furnished by Mrs. B. W. Talcott and Eldon Stafford. The pallbearers were six of his comrades: Jesse McLane, George Johnson, D. G. Courtnage, W. Walker, August Gipper and Otto Weder. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery with the Legion having charge of the services at the grave.

Loren Loomis Uhl, youngest son of Joseph and Esther Bryant Uhl, was born at Delaware, Delaware county, Iowa, on Oct. 30, 1888. At the age of five he moved to Arlington and later to Strawberry Point, where he made his home for 35 years. He was united in marriage to Thelma Louise Allen of Hawkeye on Oct. 25, 1922. To this union two children were born.

Mr. Uhl enlisted in the World War on April 25, 1918, and remained until the Armistice was signed. He was wounded in action and had severe fighting experience in France. He took a vocational course at Des Moines and fitted himself to become a pen and brush artist, under the government's direction. The home was made at Des Moines for two years, after which Mr. and Mrs. Uhl returned to Strawberry Point where they have since resided. He took an active part in Legion work. He was an interior decorator and an artist. Besides his wife and two daughters, Bonnie Lorraine and Marilyn Esther, he leaves two sisters and four brothers: Miss Mary Uhl of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Maud Liddy of Manchester, George Uhl of Strawberry Point, Lucius Uhl of Ryan, Stephen Uhl of Waterloo and William Uhl of Jordan, Mont., besides other relatives and a large circle of friends. His parents, one sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
