George Louis Carl Ruegnitz, son of George C. and Augusta nee Blanchaine, was born March 21, 1881, in Boardman township, Clayton county, Iowa, and died Jan. 27, at Iowa City, Iowa. The deceased reached the age of 56 years, ten months and six days. Many of his friends knew of his impaired health for the last few years, but his death came as a shock to all.
Although he spent the last 33 years of his life on his farm near Elkport, Iowa, yet he found time to serve his community and the entire county in various ways. The number of offices which he was called to fill showed the esteem in which his friends held him. He was secretary of Littleport creamery for 20 years, for several years he was president of the Littleport bank, he served the county as supervisor for three years, he was stockholder and secretary of Enderes factory of Guttenberg, and he taught school for five years.
He was a member of Elkader Lodge No. 72, A.F. & A.M., the Woodmen and Royal Neighbor lodges of Littleport. He graduated from Elkport high school in 1900 and attended State Teachers college at Cedar Falls, Iowa.
In Nov. 09, 1905, he was united in marriage with Rosa A. Enderes, here at Elkader. Five children, one daughter and four sons, were born to this union, namely: Mrs. John Jessen, Oelwein, Iowa; Ransom, Ray, Raymond and Kenneth, all of Elkport.
His departure is mourned by his wife, the aforementioned children; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Ortman, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Chris Behrens, Littleport; six grandchildren, and a large circle of friends. One other sister, Bertha, died in infancy.
