John McGee died at his home here in Elkader last Saturday, January 29th after an illness of five years at the age of 66 years, five months and 11 days.
Mr. McGee was born on the McGee farm in Boardman township on August 11, 1871, the son of James and Mary (Fitzgerald) McGee. On September 21, 1915, here in Elkader, he was united in marriage with Miss Mayme Maley and two children were born to this union - one son John, and one daughter Mary Kathryn, who with the widow, survive.
Following the marriage and until 1929, the McGees resided on the farm in this township. During that year they removed to Elkader and this has since been the family home.
Funeral services were held on Monday morning at the family residence at 9:15 and at St. Joseph's church at 9:30, the Very Rev. Father J. P. Taken officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Casket bearers were six nephews of Mr. McGee: Joseph McTaggart, Carl Rothmeyer, Tony Davidsaver, Joe Hyde, Hughie Hyde and Robert Hyde.
