Clayton Cunty Register, 05 Jan. 1938.

STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for Fred Otterbeck were held at the Congregational church Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Carrie V. Lucas. Interment was made in the local cemetery, with the Legion having charge of the services at the grave.

Frederick William Otterbeck was born on a farm near Scott, Iowa, on Feb. 20, 1896, and died Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, 1937. At the age of 14 years he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. . Graf. He was a World War veteran and later joined the American Legion, taking an active part in the organization. On Feb. 28, 1923, he was united in marriage to Viola McLane. The home was made on the father's farm near Strawberry Point until March 01, 1932, when they moved to town where he found employment driving for Dr. E. J. Hotz. Last June Mr. Otterbeck was stricken with Bright's disease, and in September was taken to the veteran's hospital at Des Moines where he remained a month. Early in December he became ill again and was taken to the hospital in Oelwein, returning home December 11. Later, pneumonia developed and on Christmas Day a stroke came that brought fears that he would not recover, and he passed away Tuesday morning, being conscious nearly to the last. His father, mother and one sister, Mary Otterbeck Fredrick, have preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, two sisters and five brothers, Mrs. Adolph (Rose) Possehl, Manchester; Mrs. John (Kathryn) Scharff, Guttenberg; Charles, Volga City; William, St. Olaf; Christian, Herman and Louie, Strawberry Point.
