VOLGA: Herbert George Ambrose, the son of James and Anna Ambrose, was born at Lockport, N.Y., on the 27th day of September, 1852, and died at his home in Volga, Iowa, on Dec. 06, 1937, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 9 days.
When three years of age the family came to Iowa, where the deceased spent all of his life with the exception of 22 years in California. While there he worked on a large dairy farm and also spent considerable time teaming in a logging camp.
Upon returning to the home of his boyhood, he engaged in the livery business, first with a team and later with a car, until age denied him that activity which he enjoyed so much.
He leaves to mourn his death a brother, Frank of Volga and a half-sister, Mrs. Orpha Boyer of Arlington and a host of friends.
Very soon after he was 21, he united with the Masonic lodge of Volga and later, when that body disbanded, he was counted with the members at Elkader. Funeral services were held at the home at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 8 and at 2:30 at the M.E. church. The Rev. E. J. Starr delivered the sermon and the choir, composed of Jennie Susie, Freda Adams, Harry Boleyn and Clarence Kohls, sang
Members of the Masonic order acted as pallbearers and took charge of the body at the graveside. Interment was in the Hill Crest cemetery. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved relatives.
