Clayton County Register, 11 Aug. 1937.

John Ihde died Friday, August 06, at his home in Read township, after an illness of about one year.

John Herman Ihde was born in Read township on July 04, 1879, and at the time of his death had reached the age of 58 years, one month and two days.

As a youth he was employed on various farms in his home community, and on Dec. 13, 1905, he was united in marriage with Bertha Meyer, in Postville.

For nine years they made their home on a farm in Read township. To this happy union two daughters were born, Rowena, now Mrs. Chester Owen of Marshalltown, and Mildred, now Mrs. Arno Huebner of Read township.

Later on, due to ill health, he quit farming and moved to Farmersburg, where the family made their home for seven years.

In the spring of 1921 he purchased a farm in Read township, which has been his home until the time of his death.

Mr. Ihde has been called upon to bear pain often in his life, and underwent three operations at different times.

A year ago in May, he suffered a paralytic stroke, recovering only partially from its effects, but was able to be up and around.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, one grandchild, Madonna Huebner; also one sister, Mrs. Fred Hoffman of Read township, and two brothers, August of Farmersburg, and Fred of Boardman township; also one half-brother, Charles, of Boardman township, and one half-sister, Mrs. Annie Noarthworty of Gottenberg, Nebr.

Besides these, many friends and neighbors join in sympathy with the family in this bereavement for one who was faithful to his family and to his church. He will live long in their memory.
