Burrows Hughes, a life-long resident of this county, died at his home in Littleport on June 24th, following a severe heart attack suffered some four weeks before.
He was born October 06, 1859, the son of James and Margaret Hughes. The deceased was the last member of a pioneer family of 12 children, and at the time of his death had reached the age of 77 years, eight months and 18 days.
On September 22, 1880, in Strawberry Point, he was united in marriage with Viola McLane. to this union two children were born. One son, Elmer, died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. Herman Becker, resides in Littleport.
The life which Mr. Hughes led, both as a private and public citizen, marked him as a man of sterling qualities with a devoted loyalty to American ideals. As a husband he was kind and considerate, a good provider and a neighbor who never refused to lend a helping hand to the needy and to contribute to any worthy cause.
He leaves to mourn his death, his aged wife, Mrs. Viola Hughes, one daughter, Mrs. Herman Becker, and three grandchildren, Don Becker of Flint, Mich., Mrs. Warren Kratz of Burlington, and Miss Inez Becker of Littleport, besides a host of friends and neighbors.
