Funeral services were held last Monday afternoon for Charley F. Rantzow, who had died at his home June 11, at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 16 days. The Rev. O. M. Meyer, pastor of the Zion's, and the Rev. M. J. Harder, pastor of St. Paul's at Garnavillo, officiated. Burial was made in the Clayton Center cemetery.
Charley Frederick Rantzow was born at Clayton, Iowa, July 27, 1869, the oldest child in a family of three children, the son of Ernest Rantzow and his wife, Marie Luckwaldt. His youth was spent there until he became of sufficient age to work on various farms in the surrounding territory.
On Feb. 17, 1898, he was united in marriage with Miss Minnie Junk. Mr. and Mrs. Rantzow first occupied a farm in Farmersburg township for 17 years. They then purchased their own land in 1915, in the same community, and lived on it for five years. In 1920, they moved to Read township, which has been their home to the present time.
He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran church at Garnavillo, but later transferred his membership to the Ev. Lutheran Zion's church at Clayton Center. He served this latter congregation as president with distinction for a period of seven years.
Mr. Rantzow had not been in good health for about two years, frequently voicing the fact, and consulting his physician. After driving to Elkader early in the morning of June 04th, he suffered a stroke, which culminated in is death a week later, June 11. His age was 67 years, 11 months and 16 days.
He leaves his wife and one sister, Mrs. Mary Rayment, St. Olaf, his only brother having died in 1915. A host of other relatives and friends mourn his passing.
