Volga City: About 9:30 o'clock on Thursday evening, May 27, 1937, Robert R. Duff departed from this life to join his father and mother, two sisters and three brothers, who preceded him in death.
Robert was born on the 25th day of February, 1869, and left his sojourn on this side of the Great Divide at the age of 68 years, three months and two days.
His parents, Robert and Isabelle Duff, were born in Scotland. They left the land of their nativity in 1850. Four years later, they came to Volga, Iowa, and purchased the farm on which Robert was born and lived his allotted time.
On Sept. 09, 1908, he was united in marriage to Hattie L. Goodwin. To this union were born four children, an infant daughter who died at birth, two sons, Kenneth Ford and James Robert, who are living on their father's farm, and one daughter, Jean, wife of Charles Haskyns, residing at Stuttgart, Ark.
Robert attended the Presbyterian services held at the schoolhouse of his neighborhood until a few years ago when they were discontinued. Since that time he became an attendant of the Presbyterian and Methodist churches of Volga.
Besides his wife, three children and one grandson, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sam Roys of Volga, and Mrs. Benjamin McKeen of Coleridge, Neb.; also two brothers, William and Thomas, of Volga.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church. Rev. E. J. Starr, pastor, officiated at the services and at the Hill Crest cemetery where interment was made.
The casket bearers were James Hummel, Ross Downs, Perry Medberry, Walter Roys, Dale Roys and Allen Longmuer.
