John Malary died at the family residence here in Elkader on Thursday, May 13, after a lingering illness at the age of 77 years.
He was born in Boardman township Dec. 07, 1860, and resided on a farm near Elkader his entire life until he moved to Elkader several years ago.
In 1885 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Donohue and only two years ago this couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife and ten children, namely: Mrs. Mary Crane, Strawberry Point; Michael Malary, at home; John T. Malary, Clear Lake; Sr. Mary Alphonus, Lawler; Mrs. Stella Farrell, Elkader; Mrs. Anna Crane, Greeley; Mrs. Margaret Luss, Quincey, Ill.; Mrs. Martha Gage, Fayette; Mrs. Elizabeth Mackley, Mason City; and Mrs. Veronica Schmid, Elkader, besides 31 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the family residence at 9:30 a.m., Saturday to St. Joseph's Catholic church at ten o'clock. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery with the Very Rev. Father J. P. Taken officiating. Casket bearers were: Mike Roach, Fred Orr, Eugene Connors, Peter Feeney, Phil Boland and Walter Kennedy.
