Clayton County Register, 05 May 1937.

Mrs. Louisa Kathryn Krieg died Sunday evening, May 02, at the age of eighty years, ten months and fourteen days.

The deceased was born in Derngarten, Germany, June 18, 1856. She was a daughter of Carl and Sophia Brandt. When fifteen years of age, on the 18th day of October, 1871, she came to this country and landed at New York. From there she went to live with relatives in Ira Mountain, Mo. Later she spent four years in St. Louis, Mo.

In the year 1877 the deceased came to Clayton county. On Mar. 24th, 1877, she was united in marriage to Henry Krieg at Dubuque. For a number of years they farmed in Cox Creek township. After the death of her husband in the year 1917, Mrs. Krieg moved to Elkader. For the last 20 years she has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Wacker.

Eight children were born to the above union: Adolph, residing on a farm near Communia; Mrs. Alma Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Frank Wacker of Elkader; and Helmuth of Chicago, Ill. The four following children preceded her in death: Mathilda, Bertha, Mrs. Norma Monnahan and Henry. We can truly use the words of 90 Psalm to describe the life of the deceased. "The days of our years are three score and ten, or even by reason of strength fourscore years; Yet is their pride but labor and sorrow; For it is soon gone, and we fly away." Coming to this country as she did at fifteen years of age was in itself not an easy task. Throughout her married life she was confronted with sickness in her family and was called upon to place her husband and four adult children into the grave. The last few years of her life were pleasant ones. In spite of advancing age and failing health she took a keen interest in her grandchildren and enjoyed nothing more than to be with them. Her daughter, Mrs. Anna Wacker, as well as the other children, made the closing years of her life as easy as possible. The deceased was a member of Evan. Friedens church and the Frauen Verein. Although unable to attend for years on account of failing health, she partook regularly of the Lord's Supper and met the other obligations of the church.

She leaves to mourn her departure, the above named children, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services from the Frank Wacker home were held Tues. at 1:15; Friedens Evang. church, 2 o'clock. Burial was made at Mederville. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating.
