Clayton County Register, 21 Apr. 1937.
Mrs. Kate Falkenhainer died on April 12, 1937, after having reached the age of 70 years. Mrs. Falkenhainer was born Oct. 22, 1866, the daughter of Wolfgang and Pauline Schmidt, pioneer residents of the town of Elkader.
Her entire lifetime was spent in this community, and on November 02, 1887, she was united in marriage to Ben F. Falkenhainer, who died February 06, 1924.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Soll and Carolyn Schmidt, of Elkader, and three brothers, Fred Schmidt of Elkader, Wolfgang Schmidt of Norfolk, Neb., and William Schmidt of Los Angeles, Calif.
Mrs. Falkenhainer was a domestic person. She was concerned with the duties of her household and was interested in the welfare of her relatives and her many friends and neighbors. She was particularly fond of and enjoyed the company of association of young people, and she was known to a host of her friends as well as relatives by the kind title of "Aunt Kate."
She will be missed by many of us and her passing will direct our attention to the fact that high places and renown are empty after all. That the fond memories and regrets and the sorrows that those about us may have at the time of our passing by reason of our kindnesses during life, are more important memories than the plaudits of the crowd or the crown of monarchs.
Mrs. Falkenhainer was a member of the Evangelical and Reform church, the Frauen Verein and of the Eastern Star. She was punctilious in her duties and sincere in her convictions and may we say in her case as in the cast of many like her that they who tread the path of humility walk in the light of the Lord.
Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon at one-thirty at the home and at two o'clock at the Evangelical church, with burial in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
