MONONA: Martha Yearous Bernhard died April 12, 1937, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Willis Bernhard, at Monona, Iowa.

Martha Yearous, daughter of George and Catherine Yearous, was born May 04th, 1871, in Wagner township, later moving to Giard, Iowa, where she spent her entire life.

As her life's vocation she took up nursing, taking her nurse's training at La Crosse, Wis. She followed this profession for nearly 30 years, being well known is surrounding communities. About ten years ago she was compelled to give up this work to care for her aged mother, also her sisters and an only brother.

On June 04, 1929, she was united in marriage to August T. Bernhard.

She was a life-long member of the Giard M..E. church She spent her entire life ministering to the comfort of others. No sacrifice was too great when duty called.

Preceding her in death were her father, mother, three sisters, Celia, Katherine and Minnie, and one brother, Leonard M. Yearous.

Funeral services were held at the Giard M.E. church Wednesday, April 14, Rev. Melcher officiating, assisted by Rev. Feller and Rev. Turner. Burial was made in the Giard cemetery.
