Clayton County Register, 31 Mar. 1937.
VOLGA: Adella Blair was the eldest of two daughters born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Blair at National, Clayton county, Iowa, on June 08, 1859. When she was 18 years of age, the family moved to Volga, locating on a farm southeast of town. The Blair home was well known for its hospitality and religious atmosphere. On Dec. 25, 1880, Miss Adella Blair was united in marriage with Frank Ambrose, the son of a neighbor. They went to housekeeping on the farm home of the groom, where they lived until 1914, when they retired from active farming and moved to Volga, where they have since resided. On the farm, as well as in town, their home was always sought by a host of friends, relatives and gatherings of the church, where a warm welcome was always found. Deeply religious by nature, Mrs. Ambrose was ever faithful to her church and to Christian ideals; even when not able to take an active part in the work. However, her interest in the spiritual things never waned. The "Gospel of her life" will long live in the hearts of her friends. She departed this life on the evening of March 25, 1937, leaving a devoted husband, a foster brother, Fred Ebendorf of Woodrow, Colo., a sister-in-law, Mrs. Orpha Boyer of Arlington, Iowa, and a brother-in-law, Herbert Ambrose of Volga, to mourn her departure.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at ten o'clock at the Methodist church. The pastor, Rev. E. J. Starr, officiated at the services and at Hill Crest cemetery, where interment was made.
The casket was borne by C. E. Lovett, Will Ewing, Fred Keeling, Walter Everetts, James Bowles and James Hoskyns.
