Elkport: Mrs. Elizabeth Meyer died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Matt, Sunday, Feb. 28, 1937. Mrs. Meyer was 81 years of age and was a pioneer resident of Volga township, and was greatly respected and beloved by all. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Michael's church at Garber, Rev. Goetzinger officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery at Garnavillo.

ELKPORT: Mrs. Elizabeth Meyer, nee Futter, daughter of Josephine and Martin Futter, was born in Volga township Oct. 08, 1857, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Matt, Sunday, Feb. 28, 1937, at the age of 80 years, four months and 20 days. On Feb 08, 1873, she was married to Alexander Meyer at Guttenberg, Iowa, by Rev. Albers. To this union five children were born, four sons and one daughter. Three sons preceded her in death. They were: John at the age of three years, Arthur who died in 1918, and one died in infancy. Those who survive are: Joe of Elkader, and Minnie of Garber, where she made her home the last four years. Besides her children she leaves 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was the last living member of a family of seven sisters and two brothers.
Grandma Meyer was a kind and loving mother, with a cheerful disposition, and was loved by all who knew her. She was a kind and true friend and neighbor, who showed her sincerity by the constant acts of charity and love which she performed. After her marriage, they moved on a farm in Volga township until about 18 years ago when she moved to Garber, where she made her home until she was no longer able to stay alone. Then she came to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Albert Matt, where she died. She was in failing health for the past year. Funeral services were conducted in St. Michael's Catholic church in Garber by Rev. Wm. Goetzinger, Wednesday morning Mar. 03. The body was taken to St. Joseph cemetery at Garnavillo, where the body was laid to rest.
The pall bearers were five grandsons, Earl, Arthur and Lloyd Matt, Marcellus and Cyril Meyer, and Laurence Matt.
