Guttenberg: John Ben Voss, pioneer resident of this community, died at his home in Guttenberg Wednesday afternoon at 1:50 o'clock at the age of 94 years, three months and 16 days, following a short illness. On January 19 he fell at his home, which resulted in a badly broken arm, from which injuries he failed to recover. Mr. Voss was born at Hanover, Germany, Oct. 11, 1842. When he was 22 years old, he came to America, settling at Quincy, Ill., coming to Guttenberg a year later. On Jan. 15, 1878, he was married here to Mary Egleseder, after which the home was made on a farm in Jefferson township. Twenty years ago the family came to Guttenberg.
Mr. Voss was a faithful member of the Catholic church. He was a man of pleasing personality, and in his death this community loses a good citizen, one who has lived an ambitious and true Christian life, and one who has done his part toward building up the community in which he resided. His death is deeply mourned by is widow, three children, Ben Voss and Mrs. Arna Felder, of Guttenberg, and Mrs. Lena Berns of Luana; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman Voss, of Bloomington, Wis., and many other relatives and friends, who will sadly miss him. Two daughters and one son preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. A. Dupont at St. Mary's Catholic church in Guttenberg Monday morning, with interment in the Mt. Olivet cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near.
