VOLGA CITY: Edna Marie Moats, daughter of A. L. Moats and Ena White Moats was born, Sept. 04th, 1897. She grew to womanhood on her father's farm, a few miles southwest of Volga. She attended the Volga high school and graduated with high honors in the class of 1916.
After attending U.I.U. at Fayette she taught in the stone school when illness prevented her finishing the term.
While attending I.S.T.C. at Cedar Falls in 1918 the fatal illness of her mother ended what she hoped to make a teaching career. She faithfully cared for younger brothers and sisters.
She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and taught a class of girls in Sunday School.
For twelve years she kept the records for the Volga Farmers Co-operative Creamery Association, while her father was secretary.
On December 28, 1928, she was married to George Beldon* who survives with one son, Gordan, 7, her father, one sister, Mrs. Everett Lever, of Mallard, four brothers, Homer of Glen Falls Idaho; Fred of Fairbanks, Lyle of Strawberry Point and Glen of Volga; one aunt, Mrs. Grace Philips of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist church. The Rev. A. B. Chamberlin, pastor of the Methodist church at Clarence, a former minister here officiated at the services. Interment was made in Hill Crest cemetery.
Howard White of Maynard and Sydney White were honorary pallbearers while Orrin, Lloyd and Edwin Philips of Des Moines, Charles Bartels of Maynard, Floyd Patterson of Wadena and S. L. White of Oelwein acted as pallbearers.
