Mrs. Mary A. Hale, a life-long resident of this county, died at her home here in Elkader last Thursday, January 07th, following a long period of illness.

Mary A. Stahl was born in this county on November 24, 1861, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 75 years, one month and 13 days.

December 25, 1888, here in Elkader, she was united in marriage with DeWitt C. Hale. Two children were born to this union, namely, Ralph (deceased) and Grace E. Mr. Hale died in the year 1934.

Those surviving her death are the daughter, Grace E., at home, and five brothers: Gus Stahl, Mike Stahl, Louie Stahl and George Stahl, all of Elkader, and Ed. Stahl of Marquette.

Mrs. Hale was an active woman as long as her health permitted, though that activity was confined more to the home than any other one place. She was a kind neighbor and enjoyed the friendship of her friends.

Failing health, however, overtook her in recent years, more noticeable since the death of her husband, but she was given the best care by her only daughter, and her remaining years on earth were made as pleasant by that daughter as possible.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 09th in the Hale home and in the Congregational church, with burial in the East Side cemetery on the family lot., the Rev. Noyes O. Bartholomew officiating.
