GUTTENBERG: Mrs. Mathias Burr (nee Mary Nieland), life-long resident of this community, died at her home here Sunday evening at 5:30 o'clock at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 5 days, following an illness of long duration. Mrs. Burr was born on a farm in Jefferson township, Clayton county, Iowa, on Dec. 03, 1865, where she grew to womanhood. On 29 May, 1894, she was married at Guttenberg to Mr. Mathias Burr, who preceded her in death on May 27, 1934. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm near Guttenberg. Seventeen years ago the family come to Guttenberg to reside, where the deceased spent the remainder of her life. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church and St. Ann's society, of Guttenberg. Her death is deeply mourned by three daughters, Mrs. George Heck, Jr., of Garnavillo township, Miss Eleanor Burr, at home, and Mrs. Raymond Frommelt of Guttenberg: eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna Menke, of New Vienna; two brothers, Ben Nieland of Jefferson township, and Henry Nieland of Guttenberg, and many other relatives and friends, by whom she will be sadly missed. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. A. Dupont at St. Mary's Catholic church here, Wednesday morning, with interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near.
