Clayton County Register, 16 Sept. 1936.

GUTTENBERG: The lifeless body of Paul Buerkle was found in bed Sunday afternoon at his home here, by friends. He lived alone. He had been in poor health for a number of years and it is thought that a sudden sick spell and heart attack caused his death some time Saturday night. He was last seen on the streets Saturday forenoon. A coroner's inquest was held.

Mr. Buerkle was born at Wadena, Minn., March 25, 1900, a son of Rev. and Mrs. Jacob Buerkle, both deceased, and therefore was 36 years, five months and 18 days old at the time of his death. He was never married. Several years ago he came to Guttenberg to reside. Previous to that time he resided in Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri and Illinois, and at Littleport and Elkport, Iowa, at various times. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. F. E. Damm of Elkport, and Mrs. George Matthiae of Pine Island, Minn., and numerous other relatives and friends by whom he will be sadly missed. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran church. Funeral services were held at St. John's American Lutheran church, the Rev. H. Diers of Dubuque and the Rev. W. J. F. Adix, pastor of St. John's church, officiating. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
