Strawberry Point: Funeral services for J. W. Adams were held in the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. James P. Gable, the Odd Fellows having charge of the services at the grave. The pallbearers were: John Tracy, Lester L. Hines, Fred E. Tracy, Alvin J. Stamp, Ernie Roberts and John Tinker. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

John Waterman, son of Daniel and Martha Adams was born March 01, 1856, in DeKalb county, Ill. When a small child his parents moved to Iowa, locating near Manchester. He was the eldest of a family of ten children. His parents, two brothers and two sisters have preceded him in death.

March 02, 1894, at Manchester, he was married to Eunice Rice of Forestville. Three children blessed their home, Bernice, now Mrs. Horace L. Smith of Waterloo; Howard, who passed away in young manhood Feb. 15, 1919, and Bernita F. Adams of Waterloo. He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters: Jake Adams, Fort Rock, Ore.; Chas. F. Adams, Manchester; Mrs. Frank Grapes and Miss Ethel Adams of Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Nettie McMasters of St. Paul; and one grandson, Russell Smith of Waterloo.

He was a pioneer of Clayton and Delaware counties and formerly was in charge of the flour mill at Forestville for 20 years. It is now part of the Backbone State park in Delaware county. In 1912 he disposed of the mill and moved to Strawberry Point where he has since resided. In early manhood he joined the militia and served five years, going numerous times to camp. Before moving to town he filled various county and township offices such as assessor, township clerk, secretary of the school board and school director. He was an honored member of the I.O.O.F. lodge and also a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was a good father, a kind neighbor and respected citizen.
