Strawberry Point: Funeral services of N. A. Simmons were held Sunday morning at the Congregational church conducted by the Rev. Carrie V. Lucas. Members of the K. P. lodge of Edgewood attended in a body. The pallbearers were: A. J. Stamp, Bert Heddleson, Ed Angier, Chas. Wilcox, J. S. Knight, and Harold MacKean. Interment was made in the Strawbery Point cemetery.
Newman Albert, son of Theodore and Harriet Simmons, was born near Strawberry Point Aug. 24, 1863, and passed away Friday, July 10, 1936. When 16 years of age he moved with his parents to their home here where he has since resided. On Oct. 02, 1894, he was united in marriage to Belle Gilbert of Elkader. To this union two children were born, Charles Theodore, who passed away February 26, 1899, and Ruth, now Mrs. Charles Gallentine. His love for his home and family was very deep, and after the death of his wife, which occurred Jan. __, 1931, his son-in-law and daughter, ____________ Gallentine and son Theodore came to live with him. He was a member of the Congregational church, the M.B.A. and K. P. orders, and was for over 40 years an active and interested worker in the church and Sunday school. Nothing but sickness kept him from his duties as Sunday school superintendent, clerk, deacon and trustee, which were faithfully performed. He served as Justice of the Peace in this community.
