Funeral services for Christopher Oelke, 67, were conducted on the afternoon of June 09, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roy Reardon, of Farmersburg, and at the Farmersburg Lutheran church. Rev. H. M. Adix officiated at the services and at the interment in the Garnavillo cemetery.
Mr. Oelke died at the Roy Reardon home June 06, after a brief attack of Uremic poisoning.
Mr. Oelke is survived by seven children, Elsie, Mrs. Chas. Barton, of Chicago; Lorrence, Carlton and Favorit, Mrs. Jack Welda, of Mindoro, Wis.; Theresa, Mrs. Earl Walter, and Vivian, Mrs. Roy Reardon, of Farmersburg, and Bernice, Mrs. Eddie Peterson, of Melrose, Wis.; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Henry of Farmersburg, and Arno of Monona. Mrs. Oelke died just five weeks before the death of her husband. Two sons, Harold and Victor, and two brothers and one sister have also preceded him n death.
Mr. Oelke was born October 17, 1868, on a farm in Garnavillo township. He was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. March 19, 1891, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Buck of Farmersburg township. After residing several years on a farm in Farmersburg township, they moved to the town of Farmersburg where Mr. Oelke managed the hotel and livery stable. In 1919 the family moved to a farm in LaCrosse county, Wis. Late this spring Mr. and Mrs. Oelke moved to LaCrosse but their home was broken very shortly afterward by the death of Mrs. Oelke. Mr. Oelke returned to Iowa to live with his children and had resided with his daughter, Mrs. Roy Reardon, until his death.
