WOOD: Funeral services for Mrs. Elise Berens were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Wood Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. Geo. Shoemaker officiated, assisted by a former pastor and friend of Mrs. Berens, Rev. A. H. Meyer. Interment was made in the Ebenezer cemetery at Wood.

Mrs. Berens died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Culbertson, on June 16.

Elise Berens (nee Holland) was born in Germany, February 07, 1863. She came to this country in 1889 and located at Colesburg, where she worked for three years as a servant girl. March 08, 1892, she married Herman Berens, and with her husband moved to a farm in the Wood community, where they resided for many years. For the last 15 years she has lived in her little cottage in the village of Wood. Mrs. Berens was a member of the Wood Methodist church, and gave liberally of her time and money to its support.

Mr. Berens preceded his wife January 01, 1907. Two children, a son and a daughter, died in infancy, and five children survive, namely, Otto, proprietor of the Country Store at Wood; Paul, living on the home farm; Mrs. Emma Culbertson and Mrs. Laura Kraus, living near Wood; and Mrs. Hulda Hamlett of Edgewood. Six grandchildren also survive.
