Mrs. Louis Zahrndt died at her home in Elkader on Friday afternoon, June 12th, at 5:30, at the age of 86 years, three months and 26 days, after an illness of three weeks.

Mrs. Augusta Meyer Zahrndt, daughter of Henry Meyer and his wife Frederika, nee Schwabe, was born in Burtgow, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, on February 16, 1850, and came to the United States at the age of seven years, settling on the old Meyer homestead in Volga township.

On Dec. 05, 1869, she was married to Louis Zahrndt in Cox Creek township, Clayton county, and to this union three sons and two daughters were born. Her husband, a son, Paul Zahrndt, a daughter, Mrs. Henry Gmelin, also two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death, the latest to pass away being Wm. E. Meyer at Littleport, Iowa, on Oct. 12, 1934.

She leaves to mourn her departure one daughter, Miss Ida Zahrndt, of this city, who has been her constant companion since the death of her husband in 1919; two sons, Louis D. Zahrndt of Edgewood, and F. W. Zahrndt of Elkader; six grandchildren, besides other relatives and man friends.

Deceased was a member of the Evangelical Friedens church and of the Frauen Verein, was a devoted wife and mother and homemaker, ever concerned about the welfare and comfort of her family and others.

Funeral services were held from the late home at 1:30 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. from the Evangelical church, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
