Clayton County Register, 17 June 1936.

Marshall M. Prouty was born Jan. 21, 1859, in Albin, Ind., and died at his home in Elkader Friday morning, June 12, at the age of 77 ears, four months and 21 days, after a few days' illness.

His boyhood was spent at Wadena, and in 1884 he was married to Martha Ogle, at Elgin, Iowa. They made their home at Dubuque for a time, then moved to Wadena, later moving to Elkader where they have spent the past 42 years.

Five children were born to them, four sons and one daughter: Dean, Delos, Devillo, Douglas and Dorothy, now Mrs. R. A. Froelich, all of Elkader. One son, Delos, preceded the father in death in 1903. The other four children, the wife, three grandsons, and one granddaughter are left to mourn the death of a kind and loving father, husband and grandfather.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, and interment was made in the Illyria cemetery in Fayette county, the Rev. N. Bartholomew, Congregational pastor, officiating.

Casket-bearers were, Melton Prouty, Robert Prouty, Dan Prouty, Fremont Foster, William Wickham and Thomas Ogle.

Out of town relatives attending the services included the following: Frank Withers, Evanston, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Talcott and family, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Herrling, Wadena; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Ogle and family and Cathryn Ogle of Illyria; Mrs. William Schellenger, Hampton; William Wickham, John Foster and Fremont Foster, all of Dubuque.
