Clayton County Register, 15 Apr. 1936.
Clarence Marcellus Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Allen, was born Nov. 17, 1868, at Viroqua, Wis. He lived at that place until after his marriage to Miss Ella E. Walters, which took place at Independence May 18, 1901. To this union two children came to gladden the hearts of the parents, namely Mrs. Irene Allen Hall, living at Oelwein, and Mrs. Ruby Allen Gebhart. The deceased lived for a time at Arlington. Later he came to Volga City, then to Wadena, and last to Elkport, where he was at the time of his passing.
Mr. Allen came in touch with many, especially in the work which he followed; he made friends and kept them; he was a man of clean habits and sterling qualities.
Mr. Allen was to all appearances, well and in the best of health, but since last October he began to fail. Gradually he became worse. April 03, 1936, at 11:40 a.m., he went to sleep without a struggle. He reached the age of 67 years, four months and 16 days. He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Mrs. Allen; two daughters, Mrs. Irene Allen Hall, of Oelwein, and Mrs. Ruby Allen Gebhart, Elkport; four brothers, Marion James, Charles H., Blaine, and Chester; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Post and Mrs. Snyder; also five grandchildren and other relatives and friends who mourn the loss of a friend and neighbor.
Funeral services were held at Elkader funeral home, April 06, at one p.m., and at Wadena, two p.m. Burial was in the cemetery at Wadena.
