ELKPORT: Henry Carl August Schrader, son of John Schrader and his wife Elizabeth Schrader, nee Bartels, was born in Volga township, this county on May 20, 1861. After baptism, instruction and confirmation he became affiliated with Immanuel's Lutheran church of Elkport.

On September 22, 1887, the deceased was united in holy wedlock by the Rev. J. C. Th. Brauer to Miss Sophia Kuehl, who preceded him in death on February 21, 1922. This union was blessed with seven children, two daughters, namely Sophia and Louise and one son preceded him in death. The living children are:

Henry, of West Union,
Fred of Garber,
Doris and Martha at home.

Mr. Schrader had been in failing health but since last November he grew worse. He died at the old homestead at which place he lived his entire life and which was dear to him, on Monday, March 23, at 6:30 a.m.

He leaves to mourn, four children, one sister, Mrs. A. D. Meyer of Postville, eight grandchildren and other relatives. He reached the age of 74 years, ten months and three days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 25, at 1:00 p.m. at the home and at 2:00 in the Immanuel's Lutheran church. Burial was made in the church cemetery with the Rev. F. E. Damm officiating.
