Mac Michael McLaughlin, World War veteran, was born in Elkader, Iowa, May 15, 1896, the fifth son of John and Margaret McLaughlin. He spent the earlier part of his life in Elkader, moving to McGregor with is parents in 1920. He was one of the first three soldiers in Clayton county to enlist in 1917, and was on the Mexican border until the end of the war.

Mr. McLaughlin died at the veterans' hospital in Des Moines on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1936, at 1:16 a.m., where he was taken for treatment. A post-mortem examination showed degeneration of the heart muscles, a result of post-diptheritic paralysis, was the cause of his death. He was 39 years, eight months and 28 days old. He is survived by his widow and a daughter, Eileen Laurayne, and one son, Gerald Elmer, of Monona, by a former marriage; three brothers, John, James and Leo, all of Gary, Ind., and two sisters, Margaret and Geraldine, of McGregor.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ora Mildred Siglin, two brothers, one sister and his parents.

Military services were held in McGregor at St. Mary's church, Saturday, Feb. 15. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery at Elkader, where he was laid to rest in the family lot.

Pallbearers were Ray Leonard, Jos. Vodicka, Willard Minney, Bud Minney, Wm. Minney, Tony Snyder and Wm. Zweig.

Out o town relatives who attended the services were: Jos. Vodicka, Guttenberg; John T. and Leo McLaughlin and Mrs. E. E. Beers of Gary, Ind.; Jos. Kasparek, Bagley, Wis.; Mrs. Calista Humphrey, James, Raymond and Kathryne Humphrey and Ray Leonard, Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Siglin, Mrs. Mary Welch and Joan, and Gerald McLaughlin, all of Monona.
